    Description

1914 Harry Hank Gowdy Tuxedo Tobacco Store Advertising Sign
The first active major leaguer to enlist for service in World War I, Hank Gowdy also returned to serve his country after he retired in World War II. He was the key to the Boston Braves' amazing 1914 season, batting .545 in their World Series win. This 7x10.25 cardboard Tuxedo Tobacco advertising sign features a wondrous headshot of Gowdy in his baseball duds. Underneath reads
"Harry Gowdy. Star Catcher of the World's Champions, Boston Nationals"
along with his testimonial for the product and facsimile autograph. The piece exhibits some light scuffing and a one-inch border tear that has been nicely repaired (with tape evidenced on verso), which do not detract from the overall display appeal.
