Removable stirrups allow for a child to develop balance before using.  Some believe that if balance is not learned before using stirrups that the child will not distribute weight properly on each foot,  and cause the saddle to slide to one side or the other.
Please keep in mind that stirrups on these type of saddles are only for use during riding, to help maintain balance. They are not for mounting.  Saddles may slip if a childs balance is off during riding and more weight is placed on one side than the other, causing a child to fall, or the saddle to move out of the correct position.  For this reason, stirrups are detachable, and should be removed if used in the wrong manner.
Removable stirrups also allow for multiple pads to to purchased inexpensively in different patterns, materials, without the added expensive of purchasing stirrups each time. Simply attach the stirrups to the pad you wish to use!   FUN!

Bareback saddles do not have any structure, and  are not to be confused with a real saddle that utilizes a rigid tree.  If a child does not have balance, and leans to one side, all bareback saddles will slide, no matter how tight the cinch is. Stirrups are meant to aid in balance, and not to be used for mounting.  Some children balance better with stirrups and some better without. That is why our stirrups are detachable. As with all horse equipment, children should not be without adult supervision.
