    Description

This is a rare authentic Missile Defense Agency (MDA) Visitor Information Booklet for the January 10, 2010 FTG-06 Ground Based Interceptor (GBI) flight test.
    This
test was to be the first flight and intercept test for new version of the Ground-based Midcourse Defense (GMD) kill vehicle, the CE-II Exo-atmospheric Kill Vehicle (EKV).  There was a failure with the sea-based SBX radar, due to chuffing from the final stage of the target missile booster; however, the EKV was still able to attempt to home in on the target.  However, a failure with the EKV itself also occurred, and the target was not hit.    This problem was subsequently described as a quality control problem involving a connection that caused a thruster to fail.  The SBX was the only operational sensor to participate in the intercept attempt.  The IRBM target with a simulated reentry vehicle was launched from the Reagan Test Site on the Kwajalein Atoll, and reportedly successfully deployed countermeasures.  The interceptor was launched from Vandenberg AFB.
The 20 page 8.5 X 11 inch bound booklet was distributed to official visitors at Missile Defense Agency Headquarters and other worldwide sites participating in the mission.  It contains color descriptions of the mission scenario, details of the missiles involved, mission timeline, radars, battle manager and other test resources, and individual fact sheets about the mission components.
Since this test was only partially successful there is more limited information available to the public for this event.
A description of the Ground-Based Midcourse Defense Program is available from Wikipedia
