Rawhide Covered Western Visalia Style Oxbow Shaped Saddle Stirrups 1 inch WideDescription
This is a great pair of using rawhide covered Oxbow stirrups stamped Made in Mexico. These are not "cheap" stirrups from Mexico, but feature very well crafted quality by Mexican leather artisans. The 1 inch wide stirrups are covered and finely laced with heavy wearing rawhide, and feature a tread made from saddle skirting leather laced with Indian tan lace. The stirrups are in lightly used pre-owned condition with slight discoloration to the rawhide and leather treads from light use. Please use the close up feature to inspect the surface.
These great stirrups are in great using condition and might just be the pair you are looking for. The leather at the bottom treads of the stirrups shows very little wear or use. The stirrups measure 4.75 inches wide across the tread at the widest part.
Oxbow stirrups are
rounded, snug-fitting stirrups that are designed so that the arch of the rider's foot sits across the base of the stirrup. The name comes from the stirrup's resemblance to the U-shaped oxbows that were used as the
collar for actual oxen when they were attached to a yoke. The Oxbow quickly became popular with rough-string riders because it was easier to hold on a pitching horse. There is leather mounted at the tops and across the treads.
What most people like about Oxbows is if, and when, your foot comes off that stirrup, the shape helps it to stay right there making them a perfect choice for people who start colts.
